THE big winner of the Lithgow Golf Club single event John 'Digger' Murnane does not know what all the fuss about slow greens is about.
The greens were cored a couple of weeks back and are gradually getting back to their best, but were still a littleslow for the event.
“All you got to do is pick out a line and hit it hard straight at the hole.
“The extra run on the day was also helpful following a couple of hot windy days that dried out the fairways,” said Murnane.
Playing off a handicap of 16, Murnane finished with the big score of 45 points and needed every one of them to take out the B-grade voucher.
Runner-up Nev Kerrison finished on 44 points with the score usually good enough to win any competition.
In A-grade, Mitch Luka played good golf to finish with 39 points with the runner-up being Frazer Hamment on 38 points on a countback.
C-grade also saw good scoring with Steve Lewicki putting it all together to finish with 39 points, two better than runner-up Brian Giblett on 37.
The best scratch scores on the day went to: A-grade, Andrew Burton 73 ocb; B-grade, David Titcume 75 and C-grade, Steve Lewicki 92.
Those to figure in the ball competition were: Nev Kerrison on the second (125cms); Paul Stewart on the fourth (148cms); Anthony Boza on the ninth (78cms); Michael Casey on the 13th (10cms... unlucky not to get a hole in one, but he did get the putt for his birdie) and Paul Bailey on the 18th (149cms).
Those to play well and figure in the ball competition were: David Titcume, Scott Hunter, Jeff Geddes, Paul Bosman, Paul Stewart, Geoff Thompson, Frazer Hamment and Col Quince.
Today's event is a stroke with the monthly medals held in conjunction.
