IT is only early in the season, but already the question is being asked as to who will step up and stop Lidsdale Lions going back to back in winning the Lithgow Cricket Association’s first grade title.
Lidsdale v Lithgow Hotel: Lidsdale all rounder Josh Howarth had a day to remember, both with the bat and the ball.
His team Lidsdale made short work of Lithgow Hotel who, after a good start by opening batsman Michael Hutchinson (41 not out), finished their innings for an embarrassing 67 with none of the other batsmen scoring more than 8.
Lidsdale’s Josh Howarth ripped through the Lithgow Hotel batting line up taking 5-12 off seven overs while Harry Bender (2-22 off five) and Darren Lambert (1-11 off five) were the other wicket takers.
The low total allowed Lidsdale to give their younger batsmen an early start and passed the Lithgow Hotel total at 6-74.
It was a good day for Josh Howarth who backed up his excellent bowling form with a batting innings of 20 not out with good support coming from Harry Bender (12) and Darren Lambert (10).
Bowling for Lithgow Hotel Michael Hutchinson, who has been one of the form players over the past month, also backed up his good innings with the bowling figures of 4-24 off his eight overs.
Jon Cronin and Neil Hutchinson also bagged a wicket each.
Half a dozen wickets for Aron Crowder La Salle Hornets v Valley:
The Valley boys scored a good win over La Salle Hornets with the win keeping them in second place on the ladder behind Lidsdale while the Stingers find themselves on the bottom of the competition ladder.
Batting first, La Salle Hornets finished with 131 with their best being Aaron Manton who batted well for his 51 runs with Adam Lewis (21) and Jordan Smith (22 not out) the only other batsmen to make it to double figures.
Bowling for Valley, the Stingers could not handle the pace and guile of Aron Crowder who skittled the batsmen taking 6-28 off his eight overs.
Chris Guigni (3-15) also bowled well. Valley were untroubled passing the Stingers’ total at 6-135.
Opener Ben Sheehan (29), Eli Felton (10), Graeme Bell (24 not out) chipped in while Aron Crowder continued his dream day with 39 not out.
Young Brock Barry bowled well for Hornets taking 3-46 off seven overs.
