STUDENTS from Bathurst Schools have gained first hand experience of what is available in tertiary studies close to home during an information day at the Lithgow College of the University of Western Sydney.

It was all part of the Fields of Dreams program initiated by UWS in conjunction with the Elevation Foundation targeting secondary students with an indigenous background. Taking part in this latest information day were four Bathurst schools, St Stanislaus, McKillop, Bathurst High and Kelso High.
Sessions included workshops on nursing courses at UWS, study skills and the availability of scholarships.
The students were also given a tour of the upmarket UWS facility.
They were addressed by Professor Shirley Gilbert from the UWS School of Education; Jodie Venables (UWS Scholarships Officer; and Lachlan McDaniel from Recognise, a peoples’ movement to recognise Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders in the constitution.
A UWS spokesperson said it had been ‘an amazing day’ and staff left the campus feeling very inspired. “I am sure the students were also very inspired and motivated after such a wonderful day,” she said.
