When a Blue Mountains resident who must surely have been one of the most avid movie buffs anywhere passed away he was anxious
for his huge collection to be of benefit to a community organisation.
During his lifetime he amassed a massive collection of anything and everything associated with the fantasy world of the movies.
And in his final years he was anxious that his prized collection would continue to entertain.
In his will he left his collection to the Lithgow Valley Film Society, the voluntary organisation operating the community cinema in eastern Main Street.
We’re not talking about the average household collection here; around 8000 items were delivered to the Lithgow group and yesterday the sale began.
Books, movie posters, DVDs and a few VHS videos spanning a vast variety of tastes have been packed into the cinema after a huge effort by members at the weekend to find display space.
Many of the movies, including boxed sets, have never been taken out of their cases.
Members had first pick on Monday and Tuesday but that didn’t even dent the surface of the display.
It is now open to the public at bargain prices from 10 to 4 until Saturday and then again from Monday to Wednesday.
