Children who attended were able to rub shoulders with the Tooth Fairy, with each receiving a dental pack consisting of toothbrush and toothpaste.
They also learnt about tooth decay, healthy gums, good and bad foods and the importance of regular check-ups.
There were also quizzes and many children received a number of prizes.
The Tooth Fairy was accompanied by local dental professionals from Westfund Health’s Dental Care Practice at Lithgow.
According to Westfund’s Children’s Dental Therapist Kirsty Cowell the visit helped to educate the children on proper dental health and how to look after their teeth.
“This is a fun and interesting way to present essential information to children.
“Good oral care is a very important factor in general overall health.
“Healthy teeth and gums can mean healthy, happy children and that’s what we strive for,” Ms Cowell said.
The Westfund initiative is a free community service which commenced in 2010 in NSW and educates children through interactive and entertaining presentations at local schools.
The Westfund Dental Care team decided to continue the popular visits in 2015 to help deliver messages about the importance of oral health with a view to preventing problems before they occur.
Poor oral health can have a direct impact on a child’s learning and studies have shown that oral care is far more effective when it is preventionorientated rather than disease-orientated.
Local children will be able to catch the Tooth Fairy on her very busy schedule on the following days: Wednesday June 3 Gumnut House Child Care Centre at 9am; Thursday June 11 Jack and Jill Preschool at 11am; and Thursday June 20 to Friday June 22 Pied Piper Pre School Wallerawang.
