THERE will be quite a deal of living history at play on Saturday when Eskbank House hosts the ‘world premiere’ of ‘Pioneers in Petticoats’. The play is the work of Wendy Blaxland and her daughter Jessica Blaxland Ashby who are the direct descendants of Blue Mountains explorer Gregory Blaxland. An experienced theatre actress Brigid O’Sullivan will bring to life four feisty ‘real’ women from the convict era who helped shape Australia. The most colourful will surely be Lola Montez, a legendary exotic dancer from the Ballarat goldfields who famously horsewhipped a newspaper editor who belittled her work. There will be performances at 2pm and 6pm. Tickets are $24 with concessions for families. (4730 6932).
