Scheduled for next Sunday May 31 the event is now in its eighth year and has raised a considerable sum of money for cancer research.
It has become a popular event, with more than 750 walkers participating last year and more importantly raising money for a very worthy cause.
The walkathon will this year depart from the Royal Hotel Wallerawang at 11am, and proceed to the Portland Golf Club, where participants will gather for refreshments, a well earned drink and entertainment.
Indications are that there will be once again a large contingent of walkers to support Bender and Rushworth and the communities of Portland, Wallerawang Lithgow and district are urged to show their support by sponsoring the event.
The Wallerawang-Portland road will be closed once again between 11am and 3pm with rolling closures.
Officers and staff of Lithgow City Council, State Emergency Services and Police are thanked for their support and cooperation.
Sponsor forms are located at various business houses around the respective towns or you can contact Laurie (6355 5217) Pam (6351 4932), Barry (6355 7023), Bruce (6366 6073) or John (0409 345 752).
Buses will depart from Portland RSL Club at 9.30am next Sunday to convey any walkers to Wallerawang for the Walk.
This service has been provided by Donnybrok Hotel and Goodearth.
Among the fundraising efforts are a raffle with good prizes donated by Ned’s Mowing Service, Karen Moon and Portland Newsagency.
Tickets are available at various outlets in Portland and will be also available at the sausage sizzle courtesy Williams Meats today and next week outside Portland Newsagency.
The support of Williams Meats and Portland Neswsagency with the sausage sizzle and raffle sponsors is much appreciated.
An amount of $920 was also collected from the two-up on Anzac Day at Portland RSL Club.
Organisers Wayne Griffiths and Laurie thank all for their support on the day.
