DPI Acting Director Fisheries Compliance Tony Andrews said fisheries officers will be conducting regular patrols across the state’s waterways to ensure people are complying with important recreational fishing rules.
“Fisheries officers will be targeting popular coastal areas as well as key inland fishing spots,” Mr Andrews said.
“All fishers must hold and carry with them a current NSW recreational fishing licence, and must also be aware of the current bag and size limits in place.
Anyone found without a licence faces a $200 on the spot fine and additionally a penalty of $75 can apply if they do not have the licence in their immediate possession.”
NSW recreational fishing licences are available at more than 1000 outlets including bait and tackle shops, some Kmart stores, online at www.licence.nsw.gov.au or by calling 1300 369 365.
Licence fees are: Three days $7, one month $14, one year $35 and three years $85.
Details of bag and size limits can be found in the 2014 NSW Recreational Fishing Guides available on the DPI website www.dpi.nsw.gov.au/fisheries.
Anyone who suspects illegal fishing activity can report it to the Fishers Watch Phoneline on 1800 043 536.
