They have surpassed all expectations in what has been a very successful and learning experience for the young Bluetongues.
They travelled to Bathurst on Saturday to take on a very strong Blayney side who proved to be too good.
Portland batted first with Thomas Huijser and Braith Green top scoring freely with Joel lamb, Conner Miles and Logan Ward also batting well.
Portland finished their innings with a score of 107 runs.
Best for the Bluetongues with the ball were Cody Phillips, Nate Green, Ethen and Deacon Cutting and Ben McCulkin.
Blayney took the match with a score of 108.
“Thanks to all the boys for turning up week in, week out,” coach Shane Green said.
“They have made coaching them a real pleasure and it has been rewarding to see them improve each week.
“They went from not winning a game before Christmas to only losing two games after Christmas.
“Thanks to all the parents for giving up their Saturday mornings to take their children to Bathurst and Blayney for games.
“Also a big thanks to Andrew Ward for umpiring every week and to Brendan Miles, Troy Cameron and Scott Handley for helping out with the scoring.
“The team as a whole would like to thank all people who purchased tickets throughout the year for raffles and a big thanks to Glenn Speirs for donating two loads of fire wood to raffle off.”
Next year Portland will field an under 10s side and are looking to expand by entering an under 12 side.
