The rock fall occurred on March 9 when section of an outcrop sheared away on the eastern side of the reserve above Sheedys Gully.
The fall was such that competitors taking part in a schools equestrian competition at the Pony Club grounds further down the valley believed they were experiencing an earth tremor.
There was, however, no risk of injury from the fall because of the virtually inaccessible location.
Now the Mercury has been provided with aerial photographs that graphically indicate the extent of the fall.
Today’s photo was kindly provided by Lithgow consultancy firm CEH Survey.
Surveyor Steve Kates said one of the firm’s registered quad ‘copters’ was used to secure the crystal clear image.
Mr Kates said the CEH pilot is fully licensed by CASA which means they can perform commercial work that is legally not available to non licensed drone operators.
He said that the service has been widely adopted by mining companies in particular for their survey work.
