Before the court on charges of aggravated break and entry and possession of stolen property was 36-year-old James William Millar, of Lithgow.
The court was told that Millar had broken into a home in Chifley Road at 4.30am on May 1 last year by jemmying a laundry window.
In the lounge room he had picked up a mobile phone before moving to a bedroom where he disturbed a sleeping female occupant.
When challenged he fled the premises through the laundry.
Police subsequently located a screwdriver embossed with the name ‘Stricko’ and extracted a DNA sample that matched Millar.
Millar was interviewed by police in November in relation to another incident in Chifley Road and was also questioned about ‘a number of other property offences for which he had been nominated’.
He admitted receiving a paraglider motor previously stolen from Ivin’s Carpets in Chifley Road.
Questioned by police whether he had been suspicious when offered a $6000 item for what he claimed was just $160 he admitted ‘I knew it was shifty’.
Magistrate Michael Allen sentenced Millar to eight months jail for aggravated break and entry and two months for receiving stolen property.
He set a non parole period of six months.
The sentences were backdated to November 21 when he was taken into custody.
