Full circle
THE wheel really has turned full circle. In recent years Lithgow has been constantly criticised for having the most expensive petrol between here and Sydney. When the oil price plunged recently and fuel prices dropped accordingly in most locations we still didn’t match the Blue Mountains but we did get some pleasing relief. Now the cost of filling up has again gone up everywhere. But at the weekend the column discovered we had the cheapest fuel anywhere between Sydney and Lithgow. While the prices have again soared elsewhere to the levels of the bad old days, averaging around $1.34, you could still fill up in Lithgow at less than $1.20, with the cheapest that we noticed at $1.17.9. It was a pleasant change but was never going to last.

Not the Mitsubishi
IF you’ve lost your car keys — as many, many do each year — you’ll know just what a hassle it becomes. But if you are prone to key trauma then hopefully you don’t drive a Mitsubishi — at least in Lithgow. Now Mitsubishis are a well reputed mode of transportation BUT there is currently no dealer in Lithgow. And when an associate of the column misplaced his only set of keys for his Mitsubishi ute recently he discovered to his horror that he not only had to purchase a new ignition cylinder but then had to load the ute onto a trailer and take it all the way to Mudgee just to get the new key ‘programmed’. Seems that our local motor industry outlets are set up to program just about everything, including European exotics, but not the humble Mitsubishi. There’s a life lesson in there somewhere.
