For the second time this competition Helmets found they could not be separated from their opponent as they drew with Pockets in both game and aggregate point.
Jiggers suffered their first big loss as Tall Timbers put the boot into them though Jiggers retain second spot after the completion of the first round.
C and W Printing Red Sox v Hunter Mining Methods Miscues: Jeff Stait played Ritchie Bilby and who would have known that this game was the start of the rot for Red Sox.
Bilby started out well early as he was potting some difficult shots with ease, worrying Stait who is normally unflappable.
Bilby had 23 start which was countered by Stait who had a 23 break at the back end of the game but in the end this was not enough as Bilby cruised to a 77-56 win.
Red Sox captain Tom Gaynor played Kevin Slaven and who was doing his best Mikhail Gorbachev impersonation.
He went to a commanding lead but the never say die attitude of Gaynor eventually caught up and took the lead on the pink.
Gaynor had a shot on the black only to see the white go in giving the game to Comrade Slaven 59-57.
The old master John Lyons met Col Tattersall and this was going to be Tattersall’s finest effort in a real long time.
Tattersall had a 44 start and was never really headed.
Lyons needed early snookers to catch Tattersall but that did not happen as Tattersall won 74-43.
Aaron Engeler made his debut for Red Sox and Tuesday night snooker when he played the hot and cold Matt Tattersall.
Being a new player Engeler was given the standard 15 handicap and he really showed he will be someone to watch.
Tattersall did not play his usual good game but Engeler did not let him get too far in front as Tattersall won 41-33.
Rod Denley played Miscues captain Brian Nightingale and this game was very even right to the end.
Denley only had a one point start and it was on from the beginning with each going shot for shot, miss for miss and snooker for snooker.
It came down to the black to win and when Denley lined it up and it did look good but the in-off happened giving Nightingale the game 47-41.
Claudio Crosara played Allan Piggott and with an imminent white wash on the cards it was a hard ask for Crosara.
Crosara has been very close to a win and the pressure of trying to save face for his team was hard.
Piggott had won the game before the black was sunk and Crosara tried hard but could not stem the flow as Piggott won 48-44.
Miscues won 7-nil and the players of the match were Ritchie Bilby and Rod Denley.
Lithgow Free Range Meats Pockets v Lithgow Valley Storage Helmets: Trent Warren played Paul Hewitt, Warren having another stellar season with only the one loss and Hewitt has not won for his previous three games.
Hewitt had a 15 start and it took a game against a good player to bring the best out of his shell shocked body.
Hewitt scored a 22 break on his way back to form to win 68-48.
Sharon Missingham played Brett Bradley in a game that finally saw a good player come back to some sort of form.
Missingham has not won a game in a while and she finally came to the fore.
Bradley played well and was fairly close to a win but Missingham was on a mission and she broke her drought to win 66-51.
Justin McKinnon played Dallas Thurlow in a game that saw McKinnon carry on his form for another week.
With only one loss Thurlow was looking to continue that though McKinnon has been playing solidly.
McKinnon played the better game and extinguished Thurlow’s flame 55-34.
Pockets captain Brett Holt played the much maligned Ian ‘Cracker’ Miles as he was trying to find some sort of form.
A miracle happened as Miles snapped out of his dementia mode and played like a man possessed.
Miles breezed through his game to win 72-47.
Michael Wellings played Mal Hewitt and Pockets ‘Swedish chef’ Wellings finally cooked up his first win for 2015.
Except for Hewitt’s lone two wins his form has been on the back burner this year and this was no different as Wellings won 53-37.
Trystan Ford played Dianne Stait in a much needed win for Helmets.
Ford has hit a hole and Stait for the second week in a row stood tall to win 70-63.
Both teams drew 3.5 points each and the players of the match were Sharon Missingham and Paul Hewitt.
Welch’s Highway Smash Repairs Jiggers v Carpet One Tall Timbers: Wayne Lewis played Robert Bender and both have a 50 per cent win-loss record.
Lewis was the one to settle early first and worked over Bender though Bender was never far away as Lewis won 79-50.
Troy Clarke played Peter Richards in a game that went for about one hour 45 minutes.
Clarke had a 44 start and used this well as both were not playing at their best as it was riddled with mistakes, accidental snookers and an occasional good shot.
Richards won in an excruciating high scoring game 108-85 and the only highlight was a 16 break from Richards.
Tom Capel played Leon Rust, Capel making a return as he has not been well and still recovering.
This did not deter Rust as he had to overcome a 32 start that Capel had and he played so well that Capel only scored seven points.
Rust won 79-40 and Capel went back to recovering.
Kyle Lewis played Brian Bonus and this was Bonus’s first game this competition and Lewis was looking for a hat-trick of wins.
Lewis had a good start of 31 and used this well early.
Everything Lewis tried went wrong though he played a few good shots and Bonus played a well-structured game and played hard and just won as he sunk the black 59-50.
Trent Lewis played Timbers captain Keith Morris and this was going to be Jiggers last win on the night.
Morris was up against a hot and cold player in Lewis who had a 25 head start and was never really headed.
Morris did his best while Lewis did enough to keep ahead and scored an 11 break at the end to finish 60-42 in front.
Jiggers undefeated captain Greg Sutton played Mitch McCosker who had played himself into form winning his last two games.
Sutton started out well and kept a good lead until McCosker found his form and took the lead late in the game.
With three balls left Sutton sunk the blue and still needed the last two to win and McCosker just the one.
McCosker ended up sinking the pink to win and Sutton sank the black to minimise the damage, McCosker winning 67-59.
Tall Timbers won 5-2 and players of the match were Leon Rust and Wayne Lewis.
