After a disappointing result in the Oceania Junior Triathlon in January Emily was looking to improve her ranking among NSW finest triathletes.
The tough Orange course suited Emily’s strengths and after a strong Christmas holiday training period she was keen for an improved result on last year at the same event.
The 100% Event attracted the State’s best with many Academy of Sport and NSW Development Squad Representatives.
Emily raced over the 300m swim, 10km cycle and 2.5km run.
She had an improved swim but still came out of the water one minute behind many of her competitors and had some distance to make up.
Showing determination Emily put the pedal to the metal and aggressively pegged back her competitors.
Emily’s bike leg was a full two minutes faster than the same leg last year and the fastest in her age category.
Into the run Emily held her position and was challenged in the later stages but surged and came home strongly finishing second in her age category and seventh overall, a full three minutes faster than last year.
In a show of form Emily beat several competitors who had beaten her at Oceania and in previous competitions.
Emily then joined her sister Morgan in a Bathurst Triathlon club event on Sunday.
Morgan was first off and after coming runner-up in her age at her recent school swim carnival was keen to put in a good result.
Morgan was strong out of the pool and pushed the pace in her favourite leg on the bike.
Morgan held her first category position on the run and was very happy to improve on her Australia Day result and finish first female and second overall.
Backing up after the Saturday event Emily competed in the short course event and although weary could not help herself and pushed herself to the limit.
She placed first female and was only a two minutes off her fastest time over the course.
Emily also recently competed in the NSW track cycling championship at the Dunc Gray Velodrome.
Being her first race on the track and only recently having at crack at the very different form of racing she was very nervous going into the individual pursuit event.
Emily had a competitive time placing sixth overall and fastest bottom age girl.
She is now looking forward to the next track season and her coach is confident she can achieve a national class time to compete against Australia’s best in the national championship.
Emily thanks the ongoing support of Splashes Spa World, Lithgow Council and especially Raine and Horne Lithgow whose support has Emily donning a flash new aero helmet.
She is looking forward to the challenges ahead and looks to continue to build on her season.
