It was tough going for ninety percent of the field with the fairways giving up no run whatsoever following the overnight heavy downpour, the pins were in tricky positions and the tees back as far as possible.
The strong winds seemed to be in the face of golfers on most holes making the holes play extremely long.
To make things worse, it was far from summer for the Summer Cup with temperatures more like mid winter.
Winner Gary Wallace started his round off by sinking a 30 metre putt for a birdie followed up with a 16 metre putt for par on the second and then went on with one of his best rounds to date.
He turned one under par 37 and then continued his good form to finish with 37 on the back nine for a 72 off the stick that gave him a 65 nett.
The handicap score is the main score in the Summer Cup with Wallace taking out the prestigious trophy.
Although Wallace finished with 72 off the stick, golfers could win only one major prize and the best scratch score of the day then went to Steve Hall with an impressive 74.
Hall who was one of the best golfers in the club several years ago and had taken a break from the game, but has since started to make a comeback over the past couple of months.
He showed his class with his two over par round and it will not take him long to get back to his brilliant best.
In the grade scores, the following winners and runners up are as follows:
A-grade: Paul Bosman 70 nett and Bill Oldfield 71 nett.
