The appointment is a testament to Mr Gill's dedication to both the students he has coached and to the sport itself.
Currently in the role of Assistant Principal at Lithgow Public School, Mr Gill is looking forward to a busy but productive year as he takes on his new coaching responsibilities.
He has coached and managed quite a few of the sporting teams at Lithgow Public School for a number of years and is keen to implement his coaching style at an elite level.
“I have worked closely with and seen some great players and coaches such as Graeme Thompson, Mick Marshall, Brett Baker and Richard Sharp and have adapted my coaching around their styles and ideas”, Mr Gill said.
For the past three years he has coached and managed the Western PSSA side (finishing 2nd, 3rd and 3rd) and convened the Western Region PSSA Knockout competition for the past two years.
Mr Gill also played Premier League hockey for Zig Zag for a number of years before deciding to retire.
The lure of the sport was too powerful however and he has recently returned to the field, playing in the local A Grade competition with Zig Zag.
The NSW Boys Hockey side will be selected at the NSW PSSA Championship, held in Newcastle in June 2015.
They will compete in the School Sport Australia National Championships which will be held in Perth in August 2015.
“This a great opportunity to work with talented boys at a high level,” said Mr Gill
“Making this side and representing NSW at the PSSA level is really the first step to a successful hockey career with some of these boys going on to represent their country as they get older,” he said.
