This has been the case for three of Lithgow best young rising stars — Hannah Kable, Dane Guffogg and Emily Thompson.
The three were members of the all conquering NSW under 13 side that took out the national championships.
Hannah and Emily travelled to Brisbane for their tournament and took out the title by winning nine games and registering two draws.
Their dominance was such that they scored 30 goals and only had two scored against them.
Their record read: Defeated Western Australia Black 2-0; Tasmania 3-0; South Australia 5-0; Northern Territory 5-0; NSW Blues 3-0; Victoria White 2-1; Victoria Blue 3-1; Queensland Embers 0-all draw; and Queensland Cinders 0-all.
The tournament was first past the post and when the points were accumulated it was NSW that came out on top with Hannah and Emily and their side being presented with shiny gold medals as a memento of their superb title win.
The girls were key players in the NSW side with their coach predicting a long and fruitful representative career for both.
Along with winning gold, a highlight for the girls was watching and training with the Australian title holders the NSW Arrows with Lithgow’s Rene Hunter being a part of the side.
The girls are the daughters of Angela and Mark Thompson and Katrina and Michael Kable.
Dane and his under 13 NSW team travelled to Adelaide, South Australia for their tournament and again were the dominant side in the competition.
Their record saw them score 61 goals to only three against.
They defeated ACT 6-0; Western Australia Black 9-0; Western Australia Gold 3-0; Tasmania 5-0; South Australia 11-0; Northern Territory 6-0; NSW Blues 7-1; Victoria White 5-0; Victoria Blue 2-0;
Queensland Sabres 5-1 and Queensland Cutters 2-1.
NSW were the clear winners with Dane enjoying a superb tournament showing his all round hockey skills by scoring a goal for his side even though his role in the side was as a defensive midfielder.
NSW coach Andy Van Pelt was very impressed with Dane’s efforts while the manager was Lithgow’s Barry Reid.
Dane is the son of Angie and Andrew Guffogg.
