Fruit and Veg Month is an initiative designed by the Healthy Kids Association that aims to promote the importance of healthy eating to students from Kindergarten to Year 6.
The students at Portland Central participated in a host of activities and learnt about the benefits of maintaining a healthy diet.
Students enjoyed tasting a wide range of fruits and vegetables while cooking a variety of healthy snacks and meals using natural ingredients.
Students were encouraged to get creative with their recipes and among the many and varied dishes produced were fruit salads, kebabs, celery boats, smoothies and veggie sticks.
The students enjoyed getting imaginative in the kitchen and quickly realised that eating healthy can not only be healthy but fun as well, enjoying most of the food they created and tasted.
Each Friday they donned their cooking aprons and made their own lunches beginning with pizza and zucchini slice muffins followed by lamb stir fry and noodles then lastly chicken and ham wraps.
Overall the month-long program proved successful in exposing the students to a wide range of healthy eating options while making it fun and engaging at the same time.
The teachers and students of Portland Central School thank Woolworths Lithgow for supporting healthy eating by providing a wide range of fruit and vegetables for the students to sample.
