AFTER a life-long passion for the game of cricket, local umpire Graeme Glazebrook of Portland has been awarded with the first ever Peter Weston Medal in recognition of his outstanding efforts in umpiring.

Glazebrook has been steadily rising among the ranks of the NSW umpiring fraternity lately and was honoured to be the first recipient of the new award.
“I was grateful to receive the medal and would like to thank the Mitchell Cricket Council for honouring me with this award,” he said.
Peter Weston was a long serving member of Mitchell Cricket Umpires who passed away in 2013.
Following Peter Weston’s passing, the Mitchell Cricket Umpire’s Association created the award to honour Weston’s contribution to umpiring.
Glazebrook was awarded the trophy by Peter Mitchell’s wife Zita Weston.
He officiates matches held by the Bathurst District Cricket Association, Mitchell Cricket Council, Western Zone Cricket and NSW Country Cricket.
Glazebrook has had a life-long passion for the gentleman’s game and after finishing his playing career took his love for the sport and refocused his efforts on the art of officiating.
Since 2007 he has been honing his skills and officiating at venues across the state.
“I wanted to get into umpiring because of a genuine love for the game. It was also a way for me to remain actively involved in the cricketing scene,” he said.
