After a good year, the under 10s, 13s and 15s can hang up their boots for the year and look forward to next year.
The one remaining side in today’s grand finals are the under 16s who will take on Mudgee.
Results from the finals are:
Under 10
The Pirtek Storm travelled to Blayney to take on Bloomfield Wildcats and began the game superbly with a great try in the corner to Kayden Whitney for a 6-nil lead.
From the restart the ball went out giving the Orange side some great territory and they crossed levelling the scores.
Then following several penalties the Wildcats scored again and took the lead 12-6.
Approaching half time the mighty Storm were attacking the try line and put in a little grubber kick, pounced on by Bloomfield and they ran the length of the field to score.
At the commencement of the second half, following several sets of six the Wildcats crossed again and the score was out to 24-6.
The “never give in” attitude of the Lithgow side was evident and with some ball, Billy Rushworth crashed over.
The momentum began to swing in the Storm’s favour with Wade Fraser and Kai Cameron leading the way.
Cody Grant then charged his way over only to be denied for a double movement and with time running out the Orange held on to book a berth in the grand final with a late try.
The final score was 30-12 to Orange.
The Storm boys never stopped trying and they all should be commended.
The team consisted of Blake Goldspink, Billy Rushworth, Cody Buck, Roman Peters, Kai Cameron, Eli Morris, Cody Grant, Wade Fraser,Kayden Whitney, Noah Stait, Kaiden Whittaker, Jordie Thompson, Tyler Buck, Cian O’Regan, Gabby Preston and Kynan Thompson.
The boys thank Marty “Beaver” Rushworth and Jason “Webby” Whitney for all their help throughout the year, as well as thanking their parents and grandparents for their tremendous support during the 2014 season.
Under 13
It was a disappointing end to what has been a great year for the Henry Plant and Equipment Hire Storm boys.
After producing some of their best form in the minor semi final beating Bathurst St Pats 42-6 they run into a red hot Cowra side that beat them 36-10 in the final at Blayney.
They gave their best, but just could not reproduce the form that saw them win some memorable games throughout the year.
Outstanding performances were put in by Pacey Stockton, Brock Egan, Logan Radzievic, Dylan Miles and Mackenzie Atkins.
A big thanks goes to the coach, managers and parents who have brought the boys on to one of the best in this age division and big things are predicted for them next year.
Under 15
The Lean and Bennett Lithgow Workmens Club Storm travelled to Blayney to take on the Bathurst Panthers.
The boys had trained strongly and were quietly confident of causing a major upset and toppling the Panthers.
A mistake from the kick off saw Panthers with a great opportunity to score first, getting the ball back 15 metres out from their try line.
But the Stormers were up for it and with some great hard hitting defence held the Panthers at bay.
The Stormers then took the ball 90 metres on their first set and with some great fast moves they took the lead 6-nil when Ben Allan crossed over.
The game was played at at high standard with both teams playing hard.
Panthers scored the next two tries to take the lead 10-6.
The Stormers were matching them and big forwards Ayden Howland, Lachlan Lennon, Ben Allan, Mitch Daley and Tom Morris were winning the middle in a great battle.
Leighton Lothian crossed over for two tries in the corner and the boys went into the break 14-10 up.
The second half saw injuries to Ayden Howland and Lachlan Lennon who were unable to participate in the second half and Mitch Daley was struggling with an injury.
Panthers scored two tries to go up 22-14, but the Stormers were not done with and they fought on with Michael Brooks appearing to cross for a try, but the pass was called forward causing an uproar in the crowd who could not believe the call.
Not to be disheartened, the Storm kept the pressure on and went back to the drawing board with with Byron Wilson crossing to make it 22-20.
The game was tough and intense with both sides going hard, but the Stormers looked the better side all day.
With eight minutes to go and no reserves the Stormers were out on their feet.
Panthers crossed for late tries and the Stormers’ season came to an end.
