Both bowlers played extremely well with Staines exhibiting a brilliant lead game with her shots always being in the head on every end.
The experienced Watters as always, showed her tenacity and fighting spirit and fought right up to the end with the strong St Marys pairing hanging on for a win.
Watters and Staines can consider themselves unlucky after holding shots on each end, but were denied the winning head with some brilliant bowling from the opposing skip.
Staines is to be commended for filling in for Beryl Evans, who was unavailable for the match and she made the most of her call up.
The St. Marys skip congratulated the Workies women on a hard fought game and said: “This was the hardest game we have encountered.
“We got the rub of the green, and that made the difference.”
The Workmens Club women's pennants team have been training hard as they prepare for the State Championships next week to be played at Raymond Terrace.
The team would like to thank the Workies men's bowlers who have been very generous giving up their time to give them a practise roll up each week.
The women have a strong side and are keen to bring further honours back to the club.
