The regional tourism awards recognise and promote product and service quality in the regional tourism and hospitality industry. The night also gives the opportunity to recognise individuals for their contribution to promoting the region.
The Lithgow delegation was headed by Mayor Maree Statham who said she was delighted at the honours that had come Greater Lithgow’s way.
"I was honoured to be at the awards ceremony and so pleased to see Lithgow individuals acknowledged for their work and commitment to promoting the Lithgow area”, Cr Statham said.
“I congratulate council’s Tourism Manager, Kellie Barrow, who was awarded the Regional Tourism Ambassador Award. This award was given to Kellie for her continuous efforts, enthusiasm and commitment to promoting tourism in the Lithgow and wider area."
Mayor Statham, Hartley’s Joan Kent and heritage officer Wendy Hawkes were jointly acknowledged at the awards for a Contribution to the Bicentenary Celebrations of the Crossing of the Blue Mountains.
"The award for the Bicentenary Celebrations was a wonderful acknowledgement for hosting memorable events including the amazing flyover, the covering of a time capsule and the most memorable event for me, the Moment in Time Exhibition curated by Hartley’s own Mrs Joan Kent,” Cr Statham said.
“I had the privilege of attending this with the NSW Governor, Professor Marie Bashir.”
The mayor said Lithgow would not be resting on its laurels in further promoting the district’s tourism potential.
Creating a strong tourism industry that maximises benefits from visitors to the LGA is a part of Council’s strategy to Strengthen our Economy in the Community Strategic Plan 2026.
