Although team numbers were marginally down on previous seasons, the committee was very pleased with the way all players conducted themselves on the day.
On many occasions throughout the day, laughter could be heard from the players, unlike the usual banter heard in the Saturday competition games.
Teams were limited to a maximum of four men on the field at any one time with the women making up the rest.
The women really enjoyed their soccer and showed they could match it with their male counterparts.
With only three club teams nominated — two from Lithgow Thistle and one from Blackheath — the fourth team, the Barbarians, was made up of players from Wang and LCR females and Thistle and LCR men.
Thank you to the committee members of Thistle Lorraine Keay, Wang Kate Jameson and Blackheath’s Barry Dorrough for their hard work.
Also thanks to the canteen volunteers and Karen Merry from the local association for refereeing the final.
Pool games results are:
Blackheath and Thistle White 1-all draw; Thistle Blue def Barbarians 2-0; Thistle White def Barbarians 3-0; Blackheath def Thistle Blue 3-1; Thistle White def Thistle Blue 2-0 and Blackheath def Barbarians 6-0.
Following these games, Blackheath took on Thistle White in the final with Blackheath running out winners 4-1.
The carnival committee will now finalise the organisation of the Lithgow Sevens Carnival being held next Sunday for all junior teams.
Age divisions will go from under 6 through to under 16.
A total of 57 teams have nominated from Thistle, Blackheath, Wang, LCR and Workies as well as visiting clubs from Wentworth Falls, Hazelbrook, Blue Mountains Grammar and as far away as Cobar.
