The club members enjoyed their June monthly excursion by meeting at the Chinese Restaurant in Wallerawang for a delightful meal and a enlightening game of Gardening Trivia.
New proprietors Jackson and Selena Su prepared individual meals for each of the members attending, a most successful effort and one with which everyone was delighted.
Barry Lawson prepared the gardening questions and members were either pleased they knew the answers or else added to their gardening and horticultural knowledge by discovering some interesting new facts.
The club has been delighted to welcome speakers Jennifer Stackhouse and Spencer Harvey to recent monthly meetings.
It was interesting to listen to Jennifer’s plans to move to Tasmania in the near future.
She will be living at Barrington, not far from Devonport, settling into an old Federation House with an established garden.
At the June meeting Spencer Harvey, a long time friend of Lithgow Garden Club, spoke of setting up a leisure and sensory garden in Bathurst, suitable for the needs of people beyond school age with learning disability.
This often comes with other disabilities such as physical, sight, hearing etc.
From concept to opening the construction of the garden took two years.
The benefits for these people with disabilities are many for example learning new skills; a space for clients to enjoy sensory experiences such as sound of running water; scents of various fragrant plants and many other new experiences.
A wonderful achievement for the Bathurst Garden Club.
The local garden club looks forward to many more interesting speakers in the future.
If anyone would like to come along and experience the Lithgow meetings and join the excursions, the club meets at the Parish Centre in Bridge Street on the first Monday of each month.
During winter (from May to September) it is at 2pm and in the summer months (October to April) at 7pm.
The president is Mrs Kerry Klemens and she can be contacted on 6355 1797.
