THE pride of La Salle Academy this week is Amelia ‘Millie’ Leard from Year 11 who travelled to Tasmania last week for the Australian all Schools under 16 girls hockey championships.
Amelia’s NSW side played some great hockey during the week to qualify for the final against the strong Queensland side.
It was a dour match with the half time the scores locked at 1-all.
NSW edged ahead with Amelia scoring the final goal in the 64th minute to seal the win 3-1.
The final positions following the championships were NSW 1, Queensland 2, South Australia 3, Victoria, 4, Western Australia 5, ACT 6 and Tasmania 7
“It was great to see Millie return with a gold medal and she also gained further honours by being named as a shadow player for the 2012 Australian school team,” La Salle sports teacher Darren Culnane said.
“This is an outstanding achievement for Millie who is one of the school’s best all round sportspersons.”
