IT is wonderful to see lush green grass following our recent rainfall, and that the drought may have finally broken.

Residents will not have to be so water conscious now and the farmers will see dams with water in them and relieved of some of the stress.
I look forward to the variety of coming events in our area as we approach our cooler months, and I hope you will be able to enjoy some of them also.
Governor had great time
It was an absolute delight at the recent Roaring 20s Glamour and Gowns Ball to have Her Excellency Professor The Honourable Marie Bashir AC CVO, in attendance.
Thank you to all the people of Lithgow and the surrounding areas who supported the ball.
It was an overwhelming success.
I would like to thank everybody involved who made it a night to remember for Lithgow.
The ball was part of the Blue Mountains, Lithgow and Oberon Tourism (BMLOT) Roaring 20s Festival and it was a pleasure to accept an invitation from the CEO Randall Walker to have the ball in this area.
It was the highest paid ticket event in the region for the whole festival.
The Governor said she had never been so warmly welcomed.
She had a wonderful time, and it was an honour to host the event.
New chairman
Daniel Myles, a councillor on the Blue Mountains City Council, is the new chairman of the BMLOT Board.
I feel we will have an excellent partnership and tourism will grow in our local government area.
We have a lot of new ideas that can be explored in the future.
Cabinet meeting
I have received very positive comments from many areas of our local government area about the community State Government Cabinet meeting held here in Lithgow recently.
The weather was perfect, and the many ministers commented on our iconic heritage buildings.
Thank you to Member for Bathurst Paul Toole for having faith in Lithgow City Council that we could host this momentous occasion.
The funding we have received from the State Government for flood mitigation and for the Portland STP sewerage upgrade is excellent news and the area will benefit greatly from this.
Well done Brad
Congratulations to the Senior Sportsperson of the Year Brad Delosa.
It is wonderful that we have a world champion here in Lithgow, and congratulations also to Junior Sportsperson of the Year, Tamika Bostok.
Tamika is a rising star in our local government area.
Great exposure
The City of Lithgow Rising Prince Gold Nugget race, now in its second year, was recently held at Tyers Park in Bathurst.
This was an excellent exposure for Lithgow at this race meeting.
A special thank you to Centennial Coal and Lithgow Furniture and Bedding for their generous support for this event.
Thank you also to Councillors Pilbeam and Higlett for assisting me with judging the fashions on the field.
Cullen Bullen reunion
Congratulations to Agnes Tilley and the committee of the Cullen Bullen Progress Association for their efforts with the recent 100 year Cullen Bullen reunion.
It was a wonderful day of friendship and catch up.
The presentation of the wonderful floats and all who engaged in the procession was well done.
It was great to see all that hard work had paid off on such a beautiful sunny day.
Carnival successes
Lithgow is known as an area for wonderful sporting achievements.
The Little Athletics Club and the Swimming Club recently held very successful regional carnivals.
I have received excellent feedback about both these sporting events.
Well done to all involved.
Hopefully we will see more of this in the future as not only does it bring thousands of people and dollars into the town, it’s great to see our rising sportspeople.
Well-deserved accolades
State Member for Bathurst Paul Toole hosted an afternoon tea last week which I attended for Judy White, who has been nominated as the Bathurst electorate Woman of the Year.
Congratulations Judy.
You certainly deserve this accolade.
Lord Mayoral visit
It was an honour to host the Lord Mayor of Parramatta, his wife, daughter and Parramatta Council staff in our Council Chambers last week when an $8500 cheque was donated to the Mayor’s Bushfire Appeal.
The committee for dispersing this money has been formalised and on this committee is Jill Marjoram (Lithgow Hospital), Cr Col Hunter, Greg Wardle (Superintendent of Lithgow RFS), Wayne Clark (from the rapid response team), Juli-Ann Brozek (from Council) and myself, and a successful meeting was held recently.
We are still waiting on one more donation.
There will be a meeting in mid-April to disperse the money among those affected by that tragedy last October.
