LITHGOW’S Ironfest officials and Lithgow PCYC Buddies Youth Program have begun a new partnership for young people.
The new program is designed to help all young people interested in songwriting and music to help them though the process of putting their own lyrics on paper, developing those words into a song and taking them right through to a recording of their own music so they have the finished product in their hands.
This year’s Ironfest singing songwriting competition was a huge success.
It took everyone by surprise so now the Ironfest Small Original Music Festival 2013 is being created.
Organisers would like to build the excitement starting with Ironfest Has Got Loads Of Talent on the Friday August 3 as a fundraiser for the Ironfest and Lithgow PCYC Buddies Youth Program.
The plan is for Ironfest to showcase some of the district’s wonderfully talented young Ironfest grand final and semi final singer-songwriters.
These young people will be put on stage at the Lithgow PCYC where they will perform and speak about what inspired them to become singer-songwriters and have them chat about how they started the process etc.
The program will consist of:
Lithgow PCYC Open Day on October 28 when young singer-songwriters perform.
Young Singer Songwriter Speaks is to be held on November 24 to coincide with performing at Celebrate Lithgow 2012.
Young Songwriters perform plus a songwriting workshop on November 25.
Song Development Day January 12, 2013.
Recording of their song March 23 2013.
An April 20 Performance at Ironfest and the Ironfest Small Original Music Festival 2013.
These events will be open to absolutely everyone, however, the aim is help disadvantaged youth to help them build confidence and support them by providing workshops in the local and surrounding areas.
The programs focus on building more positive interactions by using songwriting as a tool to develop creative forms of self expression as well as building self confidence and skills so they can see their songwriting-music come alive.
To complete their song from start to finish and have in their hands a copy of their own work, organisers think they can inspire some of them to continue in the areas of songwriting, music or in the music industry at some level.
