THE first stage of Lithgow’s new aquatic centre is rapidly nearing completion and is expected be handed over to Council within the next two to three weeks.

It will incorporate a new entrance to the pool grounds and new men’s and women’s change rooms, with access from Coates Avenue.

Obviously it will all be in use for the new swimming season.

But that’s created something of a dilemma for council. What to do with the existing amenities and office block which has graced the top of the rise overlooking the pools since inception back in the early 1906s.

Council a little while back invited expressions of interest from anyone with a use for the building but received no response. And that’s hardly surprising. After all, what can you do with a couple of change rooms and a former kiosk?
