Visitors are welcome

ANYONE who doubts the value of sport to any community need look no further than the events unfolding at Lithgow’s Glanmire Park over the next there days.

Lithgow is hosting the boys under 13 NSW Hockey Championships and with 33 teams coming our way that’s quite a boost to the local population, even if only temporary.

That’s almost 500 players and coaches alone with parents, officials and other assorted hangers on.

The hockey association this week even took the unprecedented step of doing a letterbox drop at home around Glanmire giving residents the courtesy of advance warning of expected congestion in the neighbourhood.

Lithgow Council election candidate Rebecca Hamment, just back from the equivalent girls championships held in Grafton, said there had been a huge boost to that city from all the visitors and ‘a great vibe around town’.

Now we just have to hope the mid winter weather cooperates at least a little.

The only issue that puzzles us just a little is ‘where are we going to accommodate them all?’
