BREEANA Jenkins is just like most nine-year-old girls, quietly confident yet a little unsure about what to expect in life, until it comes to dancing.
Breeana would dance morning noon and night if she could and rarely misses a beat on the dance floor or the chance to compete in tap, jazz, modern ballet, hip hop and highland dancing.
So big is this little Wallerawang’s girl’s love of dance she was asked to audition for the Junior Glee Club Talent Development Project which tours Los Angeles and New York City in November.
To Breeana’s surprise she was successful in securing herself a spot on the tour.
“I didn’t think I would get chosen,” Breeana said.
“It was just a really good experience to be asked to audition and to spend the day working with the people from the Australian Institute of Performing Arts.
“It was challenging but a lot of fun.”
Breeana is used to competing in competition with her first eisteddfod at the age of three.
“I am really looking forward to the tour,” Breeana said.
“We will be performing at Universal Studios, Disneyland and California Adventureland before we travel to New York and participate in the Thanksgiving Day Parade through Manhattan.
“There will be classes in Los Angeles and New York before performances giving me the opportunity to work with different teachers.”
It took two weeks after the initial audition before a very nervous and excited Breeana found out she had been successful.
“I had to ring and find out whether Breeana was chosen,” Khili Jenkins, Breeana’s mother said.
“We hadn’t heard anything and thought she must have missed out but when they said Breeana did great in the auditions and was chosen we were ecstatic.
“Only 25 dancers across Australia were chosen and for Breeana to be one of them is just amazing.”
Breeana and her mum are now working towards raising the funds to get them to America.
Sponsorship is needed for this trip to be made and Breeana has been writing letters to different business houses.
If you would like to help get Breeana and her mother get to America for a performance of a life time you can call Khili on 0421 121 724.
You just never know this could be the beginning of a very bright future for Breeana with her name up in lights on Broadway.
Breeana attends La Belle School of Dance at least four days per week and learns highland dance through her school, The Scots School, Lithgow.
