Meg Blowes
3 May 1932—27 May 2012
With much sadness we report the death of Meg Blowes, the long time resident, friend, and supporter of the Rydal and Lithgow district.
Meg with her late husband Graham, lived at Karingal Mt Lambie until shortly before Graham’s death when they moved into Wallerawang.
Thousands of people would have been to their property.
Karingal had Motor Cross Racing and B & S Balls which raised funds for the Rydal
Bushfire Brigade. The garden, with its thousands of daffodils, was opened for the benefit of local charities.
Meg loved to talk about her western Queensland upbringing, but was born in Goulburn, and met Graham through his sister when she was teaching at PLC.
After her marriage Meg continued teaching swimming and taught three generations of swimmers in the district. She was still teaching swimming until quite recently.
Meg was an expert at catering, she could tell you exactly how much margarine or tomato sauce you needed for what ever number you were looking after. Ironically Meg did not like cooking or eating but she was an excellent organizer and could not abide waste.
However, her Coconut Ice was always a feature of the Christmas gathering at the Martin home.
Meg and Kay Martin also organized, at one stage, for every primary school child in Lithgow to take part in a dance performance in the Lithgow Festival of the Valley.
Meg had a great sense of fun and loved parties.
She always welcomed her children’s friends and then the grandchildren and all their friends. Sue and Clinton have lost a much loved mother. We have lost a great character.
