Rydal Youth Education Fund

This education fund has now been in place for a few years and is designed to help young local residents who wish to continue their education after leaving school.

It is intended that it help towards expenses associated with courses that provide employment skills.

This year Eleanor Black graduated from Charles Sturt University with credits in a Bachelor of Education.

Eleanor was one of the early recipients of this fund and she is now working as a casual teacher at Wallerawang, Portland, Cullen Bullen and Scots Primary School until a permanent position becomes available.

Natalie McLaren received funds in 2011 to help with her expenses when she went off to the University of Wollongong and was able to buy a laptop computer, essential for her studies.

She in enrolled in a double degree in Bachelor of Media and Communications Studies and Bachelor of International Studies.

Natalie made good use of that laptop and it helped her obtain four Distinctions and four Credits at the end of her first year.

She tells us she was very thankful for the support she got from the Rydal Education Fund.

Chris Perry also received a grant in 2011. Chris who is sight impaired needed special texts to help him with his studies and last year he was enrolled in Information Technology Certificate 4 at the Bathurst TAFE. Chris has completed most of the subjects in this course and is continuing in 2012 with the remainder of the subjects.

Funds for this worthwhile community cause are provided by the efforts of the volunteers through such activities as dances. If you have any suggestions for how to raise money for this fund, contact Helen Black.
