LITHGOW Under 12 Lazers travelled to Wollongong to contest the annual New South Wales Country championships in what was a very demanding weekend.
The boy played seven games and met with mixed results.
They got off to a good start when they defeated the strong Illawarra side, but then went down to West Wyalong.
The Lazers bounced back to score wins over Maitland, Golbourn and Albury to qualify for the semi finals in Division 3.
After a tough match, the Lazers defeated a much taller Canberra side that used their height to good advantage, but the speed and skill of Lithgow shone through.
Lithgow progressed to the final where they met West Wyalong who had beaten them in their second match of the tournament.
They put up a great battle, but West Wyalong held on to take the title by seven points in what a very close contest.
Head coach Dave Swift said: “The boys did extremely well to finish as runners-up.
“It was a tough weekend and considering we only had six players and were up against teams much taller than us.
“The pleasing thing about the team was that it was a real team effort with all the boys contributing to each game and they can be very proud of themselves.”
