Our petrol hasn't come down

SECTIONS of the media were confidently predicting that motorists could look forward to dramatic drops in petrol prices at the weekend but apparently the message didn’t filter through to Lithgow.

In the upper Blue Mountains the prices indeed plunged by quite a significant margin. But just down the road in Lithgow nothing has changed.

The unhappy situation prompted this note from reader David Griffiths:

‘Over the weekend at Mt Victoria, Blackheath and Katoomba the petrol prices had indeed dropped to $1.28 a litre for E10 and corresponding reductions in regular, premium etc. Lithgow? Not likely! Still sitting at $1.44 for E10. I expect these operators will quote the old freight chestnut. Doesn’t wash fellas. Give the locals reason to buy local. Not impressed.’

And that just about summed it up for a lot of local motorists who ventured into the Mountains over the weekend.

Around the valley yesterday the price for a squirt of unleaded varied between $1.44 and $1.48.9.
