RMS owns the roadside bin

THERE was a fair bit of duck shoving going on last week when a resident raised concern at the gathering mess, including syringes, accumulating beside the highway at Bowenfels after the removal of a large litter bin from a stopping bay near the western departure from Lithgow.

Council said it had nothing to do with them, that it was a Roads and Maritime (RMS, former RTA) responsibility.

The RMS said it was council’s show.

No one wanted to know about.

To their credit council staff went out anyway and cleared up the accumulating mess.

But after our story appeared in Thursday’s edition the RMS came clean and finally discovered the rest area and associated bin were their responsibility.

They promised to replace it forthwith and to have it emptied twice a week.

Still no one is admitting to removing the original bin or why.

Nor have we yet discovered what happened to a similar bin that disappeared just down the road a short way beside the bus shed opposite McDonalds.

Come on someone; fess up!
