The town that built Sydney on national television

THE streets were bustling for the usual quiet Monday in Portland when the cast and crew of The Great Outdoors television show came to town.

Presenter Tom Williams took to the lead to show television audiences through the historical streets of the town that built Sydney.

Portland resident and colourful character Ron Bidwell took Tom on a tour of Portland showing him the signage created by the Wallnuts over the past 10 years and explained how they came about.

The Crystal Theatre and bottle kilns were also a must see for Tom along with a four wheel drive tour through the picturesque country at Baal Bone Gap before hopping on a helicopter and flying over the Capertee Valley.

The two day film session will go to air in September when Tom and the Great Outdoors reveal to the rest of Australia just how special the Lithgow region really is.

Stay tuned in September to Channel Seven for a televised view of your local area.
