Juniors excel in miserable conditions

WHAT a day, each and every young Junior Men’s Hockey players needed to be congratulated for just turning up and playing.

The rain fell all morning and the wind whipped across the Glanmire making it very uncomfortable for both players, umpires and spectators.

UNDER 7:

Workies Gold v Workies Checkers

Checkers played well with the highlight being Brayden Lewis’ goal which was a beauty.

Most improved: Mia Healey and Tayla Walsh. Video Ezy Award: Hollie Lewis.

Workies Gold played well in the horrible weather conditions and did a lot of running to keep warm.

Player of the match: Lily Kable. Scorer was Maggie Thompson.

The final score was 1-all.

Workies Panthers v Zig Zag

Panthers played well despite the horrible weather conditions with the ball going from end to end.

Most improved: Aiden Fitzpatrick. Video Ezy award: Flynn Luck.

Zig Zag’s Jordan Crane and James Puckeridge scored goals in a good attacking effort.

UNDER 9:

Workies Checkers v Workies Sparkles

Checkers enjoyed a great game in very wet and cold conditions with all the players coming off happy but saturated.

Sparkles Most improved: Zoe Bulkley Video Ezy award: Jacova Woolsey.

Pandas team all played well and worked well together as a team.

Workies Blue v Zig Zag

Workies Blue played well considering the conditions and passed the ball well around the puddles.

Most improved: Brooke Lewis. Video Ezy award: Josie Way.

Zig Zag’s Luke Doran stepped up from Under 7’s to give them a helping hand while Caleb and Bailey Edwards continue to be strong in defence

UNDER 12:

Zig Zag Black v Workies Blue

The Black’s Player of the match was Madi Burns. Most improved: Chloe Wilson.

Workies Blue’s player of the match: Zac Arkley Smith. Most improved: Erin Rainsford.

Workies took the match 8-0.

Zig Zag White v Workies Gold

The Whites passed the ball well and held their positions in the soggy weather.

Scorers were Adam Neale and Lachie Christenson (2).

Player of the match: Adam Neale. Most improved: Bill Eustace.

Workies Gold played short but this did not deter them from putting in a whole hearted effort.

Their second half was outstanding with great passing from Logan and Brodie McManus.

Most improved: Logan McManus. Player of the match: Logan and Brodie McManus and Lachie Ferguson.

UNDER 15:

Workies Gold v Zig Zag White

Workies Gold Started out slow in the bad conditions, but as they warmed up they played some good hockey.

Player of the match: Gregory Nelson. Goalscorers were Gregory Nelson, Abbey Wilson, Brodie Ferguson, Ben Cattermole and Matthew Palmer (2).

Zig Zag distributed the ball among themselves well in the slow conditions with their scorers being Sam Grey (2), Brandon Lloyd and Bill Eustace.

Workies Gold took the honours 6-4.
