IT was mantle that we wore with pride for our 12 month reign as Australia’s Tidiest Town so it was with mixed feelings that members of Lithgow Tidy Towns headed off to Canberra to hand over the crown to another worthy recipient.
Tidiest Town judgements are announced year by year and Lithgow had the honour in 2011 after our ongoing achievements got the nod ahead of the other State finalists.
It’s a proud boast that obviously not too many communities get to enjoy.
At the vice regal function in Canberra it was announced that the title holder for 2012 is Caloundra on the Queensland Sunshine Coast.
The presentation was held at Government House in Canberra.
In welcoming the representatives from each State the Governor General Quentin Bryce spoke in glowing terms of the Lithgow district’s achievements in the Tidy Towns movement.
Apart from the national title Lithgow has twice been named the State’s Tidiest Town and has secured numerous category awards, as have the other Tidy Towns groups in the Greater Lithgow area.
