Proposal to explore for gold in dump

Mid-Western Regional Council will tonight consider a proposal from Hill End Gold to drill on the Hargraves Waste Transfer Station.

Council received a letter from the NSW Department of Primary Industries seeking comments on the use of crown land at Hargraves. Hill End Gold has requested consent to drill and explore on the Waste Transfer Station site.

In a report to tonight’s meeting, general manager Warwick Bennett outlined risks associated with potential drilling at the Waste Transfer Station.

“[It] is a site frequently visited by the public and it is management’s belief that the mix of a public facility and an exploration drilling activity is unworkable,” the report says.

“The public liability and work health and safety risks would be considerably increased on this site if used for exploration drilling.

“This is a public facility of Council that does not have staff on site for any form of control and that would further increase this Council’s exposure.”

The report demands further information before any approvals are given including drilling contractor contact details and a site construction management plan that meets all legislative requirements.
