Enduring tradition

IT’S the oldest annual major social function in Lithgow and tomorrow night the pageantry will be repeated when hundreds turn out for the Catholic Ball.

Once again eager young debutantes and their partners will be presented to the official party.

The ‘deb presentation’ has been a feature of the ball since its inception.

Consequently the time is opportune to reproduce this old photo from a Catholic Ball.

The date is uncertain but is suspected to be from at least 40 years or so back.

Identifiable in the photo are, from left, the Mayor Reg Gillard (partly obscured), Dr Colin Crichton, Mrs Irene Gillard, Matron of Honour Mrs Marita Crichton, unknown, Bishop Thomas, Mrs May Luchetti, Fr Sexton, Member for Macquarie Tony Luchetti and Fr Jim McGuinn.

But who are the two little flower girls and where are they now?
