NBN Co has a development application before Lithgow Council for a 40 metre high tower on the site of the former Koppers Logs plant, bordered by Wolgan Road and Maddox Lane.
The proposal has resulted in a storm of objections from residents in the vicinity and this week the company agreed to meet on site with residents and Lithgow Council representatives in a bid to reach a compromise.
More than 20 residents, some councillors led by Mayor Maree Statham and two officers from the planning department shivered through the open air meeting on one of the coldest days of the winter.
Mayor Statham said it was encouraging to note the level of community involvement and she hoped some common ground could be found to satisfy all parties.
She said council wants to work in with the development but also wants to protect the interests of the residents who ‘will still be here after NBN Co has been and gone’.
The NBN team was led by Tony Gibbs who outlined the various methods of transmission involved in the NBN rollout, including the fixed wireless, existing copper cable in some instances and satellite.
“This tower is part of the fixed wireless connection,” he said.
Mr Gibbs said the installation would in no way interfere with television reception.
