Instead of letting it get to her down Roslyn decided to fight and since then has become a real inspiration to cancer sufferers.
A survivor, Ros is not alone in her fight and on any given day, 40 Australian women received the same bad news and sadly each day, seven women lose their lives through this disease.
A real fighter, her plight has made her stronger and she has used it as motivation, having signed up for the Pink Pedal Challenge 2014.
The challenge is a grueling 11-day ride through Vietnam and Cambodia to raise funds for the Breast Cancer Network Australia (BCNA).
The riders will be pedaling 50 kilometres a day during the ride.
Being in the saddle for good causes is nothing new for Ros who, before she had her own problems, rode her bicycle from Lithgow to Westmead Hospital for a fundraiser for sick children.
She has also ridden in the Sydney to Wollongong charity event nine times and will again use the ride to get her fit for her challenge ride in November.
