The Western Region was represented by the Lithgow City Bowling Club team of Fay King, Vee Brown, Kerry Bernard, Carol Lord, Pam Johnson, Cheryl Wotton, June Barnes and Ina Hunter and they did so in style taking out the No 3 pennant and will now proceed to the State final to be held on the Central Coast in August.
Wang president Dianne Hawkins and Western District President Ruth Harries gave a warm welcome to New South Wales Director Denise Huender, Fran Laker Regional Representative Nepean Vice President Carolyn Pugh, Kate Houtsoukas, Jackie Lewis and Match Chairperson Barbara Woolley from the Nepean Region to the Wallerawang Bowling Club for the regional Pennant Play-offs between Nepean and Western Regiona.
After an enjoyable morning tea chairperson of Match, Kay Benger called for the cards and conditions of play with the three clubs adjourning to the greens for competition.
The No 2 pennant playoff was between Hazelbrook and Penrith City with the match proving to be a cliff hanger with the scores level with only the twenty first end to be played.
The officials and spectators from both regions held their breath waiting for the last bowl to be delivered.
The skip from the Penrith side delivered her bowl to draw the shot and take out the Pennant.
In the No 3 Pennant, Lithgow City won one rink and lost the other rink but had a total score of 41-28 to win the game.
The Lithgow City team of Fay King, Vee Brown, Kerry Bernard, Carol Lord, Pam Johnson, June Barnes and Ina Hunter were over the moon with the win and will now contest the State final to be played in August in the Central Coast Region.
The No 4 Pennant was between Lithgow City and Springwood. Lithgow City was not able to make it a winning pennant double with the honours going to Springwood.
The City side consisted of Cheryl Baker, Norma Farrant, Maree Stewart, Margaret Ferguson, Inga Irvine, Anne Spight, Pat Jarvis, Gloria Davidson and Marg Gibbons.
All the teams in the play-offs produced their best that made for an exciting day of bowls.
After the play-offs President Dianne invited all officials, players and spectators to a very enjoyable high tea served by the hard working Social Committee.
NSW Director Denise Huender and Region Representative Fran Laker presented the Lithgow City No 3 side with certificates and wished them success in the State Pennants to be held in the Central Coast region in August.
