It took some time to bring the fire under control because of the intense heat radiating from the truck which was a glow of red and white.
The Rural Fire Service assisted with getting water to the scene as crews from Lithgow Cook Street Station worked on dowsing the fire before it spread too far into bushland.
Police are investigating the incident after the truck was reported stolen from the Lithgow City Council yard in Mort Street sometime between 4.30pm Friday and 5.30am Saturday.
When the truck was stolen it was disconnected from its trailer and driven through double wire gates at the entrance to the premises.
If anyone has any information regarding the incident call Lithgow Police on 6352 8399 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
