Wolves keen for the new season

04 Feb, 2012 03:00 AM
LITHGOW Workmens Club Wolves are into official training and are keen to go one step further in 2012 after going so close last year.

After finishing as minor premiers, the Wolves succumbed to Orange CYMS in the grand final with the Orange side making it back to back grand finals.

The Wolves have gained the services of a number of quality players to strengthen their side while coach Graeme Osborne has been more than happy with numbers for the Wolves’ early training sessions.

“All three grades look to have plenty of numbers and hopefully it will be another good year for the Wolves.

“There have been a number of new faces including Brad Howell from Katoomba who looks a likely signing.

“At this time of the year, players seem to drift in and out of training and there are a lot of players who have signified they will be playing but could not attend the opening training sessions.

“I could name a dozen or so, and several of them premier league players, but they will be playing.

“A number of the younger players look a lot bigger and faster than last season and they look keen to do well.

“Once we get all together, the club will be in a healthy position with our other coaches Joe Inzitari (first division) and Wal Glasson (under 18s) pleased with the quality of players they will have on offer.”

The Wolves first trial will be against Camden Kangaroos at the Lithgow High School oval on Saturday, March 17 and another on Saturday, March 31 against Goulburn again at the High School Oval.

The club will also contest the Bathurst Knockout and the CYMS Junior Knockout in April.

The Wolves train at Watsford Oval of a Tuesday and Thursday at 6pm and those wanting to play grade or juniors are more than welcome to come down and have a run.

Oberon Tigers

The group’s most successful club has not had a team in premier league side in Group 10 since 2007 but under the guidance of captain-coach Wade Judd, they are eager to get back onto the field and establish themselves as a threat to the top teams.

“The Tigers are really on fire.

“We are really looking forward to getting into it.

“Training is getting underway and the signs on and off the field so far are really positive,” Judd said.

“Sponsorship is coming along really well and we have got some really good players.

“It should make for a really good season.”

The Tigers squad is almost complete although there may be a couple of late additions and the Tigers are still open to anybody who is interested having a run at training.

However Judd is already very pleased with the players he has so far.

“Greg Behan has been one of the leading forwards at Panthers for the last couple of years and he will be our go-forward man.

“We have also signed a young kid from CYMS that I’m excited about by the name of Luke Symons,” he said.

“Other players include Zac Rowlandson, who was a regular at St Pat’s and then young
