The perfect end to touch season

23 Mar, 2009 06:54 AM
Grand final night was a success for the Lithgow Touch Association with the presentation barbecue well received by players and supporters.

A big thankyou was extended to Ritchie and Cathy Bilby and Peter Reed for manning the barbecue.

Lithgow Touch also presented shirts to all the referees who continually helped out all year.

DIVISION ONE

Pink Panthers defeated Wildones 4-2 in a very high energy match with both teams coming out firing on all cylinders.

Brendan Van Veen scored first for Panthers with a quick dive for the line with Wildones’ Courtney Wood sticking to her sideline to score an equaliser.

Panthers kept their cool with front line defence that not even Simon Mobbs could break through and when Brett Ranse scored the next two tries, he sealed the win for the Pink Panthers.

Scott Fittler and Roxanne Van Veen were the players of the match.

DIVISION TWO

Lepracorns defeated Bandits 2-1 in a top match with both teams keen for a victory.

Lepracorns Craig Straney and Gary Inwood directed the team around the field but Bandits defence was always strong.

Adam Barrett put his body on the line to break Bandits’ top defence to score the first try.

Guy Merrick showed his usual top form to break away to score the equaliser.

Lepracorns’ Robyn Miller was then unlucky not to score with a spiral pass going her way.

The Bandits girls Tahlia, Tanya, Breanna, Shanae, Misty and Kim all put in their best games with a non stop effort.

Lepracorns’ Jordan Straney played a top match, making Bandits chase all game.

Craig Straney sealed the win for Lepracorns with only a few minutes to go.

Players of the match were Josh Howarth and Trish Fitzpatrick.

DIVISION THREE

Far Cups defeated Red Hot Chilli Steppers 4 -2.

Kyle Witherspoon had RHCS on the back foot from the start, with some fiery runs up through the middle of the field.

RHCS’ Brad Adams was the play maker for his team, trying endlessly to break Far Cups’ line.

Far Cups duo Matt Sullivan and Ashleigh Machin were in great form, keeping RHCS guessing at all times.

Beth Cook and Crystal Boyden were strong in defence for RHCS but Steven Ramsden’s speedy skills were too hard to handle.

In the end RHCS ran out of steam with Far Cups taking out the third division grand final.

Players of the match were Jess Menchin and Kyle Witherspoon.

DIVISION FOUR

Coalpac Cougars kept up their winning form to go through the competition undefeated, beating Dawn Dashers 4-3.

Dawn Dashers put it up to them keeping the score close all game.

Josh Williams was the key to Coalpac’s win scoring three tries.

Steven Lang had a top game for Dawn Dashers scoring two tries.

This was the first year together for Kelvin Lampton’s Dawn Dashers which makes it a great accomplishment to finish in the finals.

Coalpac showed too much experience in the end, coming out winners.

Players of the match were Josh Williams and Kylie Godden.

DIVISION FIVE

Redbacks defeated Mustangs 2-1 in a replay of the finals with both teams fired up for a win.

Redbacks’ Nick Mostyn started the scoring when he slipped through the defence for a fine try.

Shannon Howell kept Mustangs in the game with lots of stepping and weaving.

Blake Sheppherd scored Mustangs’ only try to equalise.

Redbacks’ Mel Cronin then scored, sealing the win.

Wayne and Rebecca Dukes were Mustangs best after enjoying a good season.

Darren King and Joanne Cornwall were the players of the match.
