The Ladies B grade tennis started back last Thursday after a two-week break for the school holidays.
Maria Kappos’ Robins had their fourth big win in a row when they defeated Margaret Vidler’s Cockies.
The teams swapped positions in the pointscore with Robins moving up from fourth to first while Cockies moved down from first to fourth place.
Even though three of the sets were only 6-5 scorelines, Kappos’ team of Alison Bailey, Leila Richardson and Kym Swift played good team tennis.
Vidler and Dawn Cafe won their set together but it was not enough to spur their team to victory.
Leanne Morgan’s Galahs halted the Carol Banks-led Finches’ winning streak with a close three sets all, 35 games to 31 win.
Both teams had a fill-in line four player with Deidre Williams playing for Galahs while Eileen Skinner played for Finches.
She looks like becoming a permanent member of Finches as they have a vacancy.
Carol Osborne and Williams were Galah’s best while Banks and Lesley Browne played strongly for Finches.
Galahs moved into equal first with this close win.
Another very close game resulted when Parrots played Swallows.
Olive Ward’s Parrots managed to sneak home by three sets 36 games to 3 sets 30 games.
Renee Kennedy had two big wins (8-3 and 10-1) while Ward and Kerryl Simmons gave her good support.
Pat Kearns was Swallows’ best while Di Forester never gave up.
These two teams are on the bottom of the competition ladder at the moment, but positions change weekly, so they both have a chance to be first past the post at the end of the competition.
