The path to higher sporting honours looks bright as young Lithgow’s shot putter and discus thrower Tai Denicaucau continues to head all before her.
At the recent New South Combined School’s athletic carnival Tai threw beautifully to return home with two gold medals.
She then backed up this effort at the All School’s State carnival at Homebush with a further two gold medals in the shot putt and discus.
It is a very happy Tai who has had to be satisfied with silver medals during her Primary School at State and National tournaments with her main opponent narrowly beating her at these top events.
Such is her improvement, Tai has now passed her main opposition to sit on top of the field.
It was a special moment for Tai at the All School’s Carnival when Beijing Olympian Dani Samuels, the record holder in the shot, was on hand to congratulate her on breaking her long standing record.
Tai has now set her sights on the 2008 Pacific School Games to be held at Canberra from November 30 through to December 6.
Good judges have already predicted further success for the talented Tai at the Games.
If her improvement continued they say that representing Australia at a future Olympics is not out of the question.
She will be up against the cream of athletes from the other states from Australia and also Brunei, Canada, China, Cook Islands, Ecuador, Fiji, French Polynesia, Guam, Hawaii, Hong Kong, India, Japan, South Korea, Macau, Malaysia, Nauru, New Caledonia, New Zealand, Niue, Pakistan, Palau, Papua New Guinea, Philippines, Samoa, Sharjah, Singapore, Solomon Islands, South Africa, Thailand, Tonga, Tuvalu, USA, Vanuatu and Vietnam.
The competition will be of a very high level that should push Tai to bigger and better things.
Tai, who attends Lithgow High School and is a member of the Lithgow Little Athletics Club, is the daughter of Heather and Deni Denicaucau of Lithgow.
