Last week Club Lithgow hosted the match between CW Printing Red Sox and Miscues.
The match began typically well for Red Sox with Jeff Stait overcoming a late charge from Rob Farnsworth Jun to win 56-50.
Farnsworth’s recent good run of form wasn’t enough to stop Stait as he went about overhauling the early deficit to take game one.
It was another tight finish in game two with Cec Thompson rallying to beat Kevin Slaven.
Despite being behind for most of the game, Thompson was able to slowly but surely reel in Slaven eventually taking the game 57-56 to give Red Sox a 2-0 lead.
Gary Nolan continued the onslaught in game three winning 66-41 over Paul Wilcox.
Nolan trailed for most of the game but remained patient and was able to take advantage of a few errors from Wilcox, going on to secure another point for Red Sox.
Matt Tolhurst moved to joint leader on the Regal Trophy standings after another impressive performance against Col Tattersall.
It was relatively close early on but Tolhurst’s vast improvement over the last few months proved the difference as he went on a potting spree to secure a 79-52 win and in doing so secured an unassailable 4-0 lead for Red Sox.
Steve Leighton was the shining light for Miscues as he was able to secure their first and only point for the match in game five winning well over John Lyons 89-68.
Lyons had it all to do and it looked like he had early on with runs of 19 and 20 but Leighton was able to hang on and secure Miscues a point.
Tom Gaynor returned to form in game six winning over Al Piggott 69-39.
Chasing a place in the Regal Trophy, Gaynor got off to a solid start and refused to relinquish his lead holding on for the win and a 6-1 victory to Red Sox.
Tom Gaynor and Steve Leighton were the standouts for their teams.
At the Lithgow Workmens Club Tigers returned to the winning circle with a 5-2 win over Yabius.
Chris Milligan kicked off proceedings with a devastating 78-59 win over Tony Medina.
Milligan never looked in danger with accurate potting and solid safety.
Medina was able to pull Milligan back late in the game but by then the damage had already been done.
Terry Christian made it 1-all after game two with a very impressive 75-31 over the inform Todd Milligan.
Milligan could do little as Christian was proving too difficult to contain.
Damien Croucher put Yabius back in the lead after game three, grinding out a 37-27 win over Rob Mitchell.
It looked ominous for Croucher early as Mitchell looked to be in fine touch but Croucher was able to pot brown, blue and pink to secure an unlikely win.
Keith Morris took to the table in game four against Dave Adams.
The game was close all the way until a few errors from Adams gave Morris the opening he needed.
Morris was able to capitalise on the errors going on to record a 52-20 win and thus tying the match up 2-all.
Game five saw Tigers’ captain Diane Stait secure a well needed 70-53 win over Paul Hewitt.
Stait began well and was able to keep Hewitt quiet throughout, going on to eventually secure the game.
Brett Holt and Justin Nelson played out one of the games of the competition in game six with Holt hanging on to win 86-73.
Conceding 34 start, Nelson went on a run of 40 early on only to be overhauled shortly after by Holt with runs of 13 and 18 of his own.
The game went back and forth before Holt was able to secure the game with the pink and this giving Tigers a 5-2 victory.
Chris Milligan and Brett Holt were the standouts for their respective teams.
SSR consolidated second spot on the competition ladder with a 5-2 win over Jiggers.
Jiggers started the match well with inform Greg Sutton scoring a 61-54 win over Tom Mayers.
Mayers had a quick start to the game but it was Sutton who was able to finish the stronger, potting brown, blue and pink to secure Jiggers the opening point.
Justin McKinnon bounced back for SSR in game two with a convincing win over Jayson Wilkinson.
McKinnon’s experience proved the difference in what started off as close game.
McKinnon’s precise potting was enough to get him over the line winning 75-52.
Heath Andrews made it 2-1 to SSR after game three, rallying from 45 points down to come out a three point winner over Kyle Lewis.
Lewis was on fire early and it seemed it would be a long night for Andrews midway through the game but a late fight back from Andrews was enough to give him the win 64-61.
Bill Cook made it 3-1 after his defeat of Brian Blake in game four winning 60-46 in what was a close finish.
With both requiring the black to win it was Cook who was able to keep his composure and go on to take the game.
Frank Wawn secured the win for SSR in game five with a gutsy 79-69 win over Jason Anderson.
Wawn dominated from the start, keeping an out of sorts Anderson out of the game with his typically accurate potting.
With nothing to lose Jim Thomas took to the table in game six against Mick Tonkin.
The 55 start Tonkin was conceding proved too difficult a task with Thomas quick to build on his lead.
Despite a late surge from Tonkin it was Thomas who went on to take the game 90-76 to limit SSR’s win to 5-2.
Jim Thomas and Bill Cook were named best and fairest for their teams.
Matt Tolhurst, Tom Gaynor and Brett Holt sit atop the Regal Trophy standings with a host of players led by Warren Drury one point back.
Red Sox are still competition leaders on 52, SSR 50, Helmets 45.5, Yabius and Tigers 45, Jiggers 40.5 and Miscues 30.
