Nine teams for women's premier league

04 Feb, 2012 03:00 AM
THE women’s Western Premier League Hockey (PLH) will consist of nine teams for the 2012 season with Orange Cougars dropping out.

Lithgow will again field Lithgow Zig Zag and Workies Panthers with Bathurst having Souths, Bathurst City and St Patricks, Parkes United with the Orange teams being Ex Services, Confederates and Kinross-CYMS.

Orange Cougars have not ruled out making a return to women’s Premier League Hockey after withdrawing from this year’s competition.

Cougars manager June Graham said the side wasn’t able to get sufficient numbers and decided at a meeting last week to withdraw their nomination for the 2012 season.

“We look forward to reforming next year,” Graham said.

“We haven’t ruled that out and the players haven’t either.”

Cougars senior player Mel Hope said the decision to withdraw was a tough one.

“I feel for June because she’s put a lot of time and effort in over the years,” Hope said.

“When we broke up last year I was expecting the core to come back this year.”

The PLH annual general meeting will be held this coming Wednesday and a draw is expected to be released in the near future.
